🗞 IAREC Elects John Crowley to its Board of Directors
Paris/Geneva – June 2025
The International Association for Regenerative Economics (IAREC) is pleased to announce the election of John Crowley to its Board of Directors.
John Crowley is a Paris-based expert in ethics, knowledge systems, and sustainability governance. He served for nearly two decades at UNESCO, where he was most recently Chief of Section for Research, Policy and Foresight in the Social and Human Sciences Sector. His work has been instrumental in shaping UNESCO’s intellectual leadership on topics such as global ethics, sustainability transitions, futures literacy, and the ethics of artificial intelligence.
A political philosopher by training, Crowley has published widely on democracy, risk, identity, and the governance of science and technology. He has also taught at leading universities in France and internationally, and currently advises multiple multilateral and civil society initiatives focused on just transitions and plural knowledge systems.
His current work at the head of the PHGD Group emphasizes the role of the humanities and ethics in navigating complex global crises — a mission that aligns closely with IAREC’s commitment to systemic, equitable transformation of economic models.
Christoph Ebell, Managing Director of IAREC, remarked:
“John brings deep intellectual and policy insight to our board. His global experience, especially at the intersection of knowledge, ethics, and sustainability, will greatly enrich IAREC’s strategy and impact.”
John Crowley’s election strengthens IAREC’s capacity to bridge regenerative economic thinking with ethical foresight, cultural dialogue, and international governance.
